Since 2019, Sakapala Community Centre has helped more than 408 volunteers complete Service-Learning Programs in Tanzania, East Africa. Our diverse range of long and short-term Service-Learning projects are available year-round and include:
- Environmental Awareness Seminar > Sewing, and Tailoring > Fine Arts
- Childcare > Virtual Swahili Sewing & Tailoring classes.
- Tutoring > Digital Skills Training> STEM Education with Arts.
- Entrepreneurship > Making Menstrual Reusable Pads > Making Uniforms and much more.
All our volunteers in Service-Learning are from USA, UK, Kenya, Ghana, and Tanzania. With Program Fees starting at just $280 USD for one week, we offer fully hosted Service- Learning projects for college students, high school and individuals at any stage of life. Sewing & Tailoring
A significant number of challenges in the community exist simply as a result of a lack of education or access to important information or lack of life skills. The SCC is offering training and giving adults and young adults a lifetime skill in Sewing and Tailoring i. e stitching clothes, and designing the latest patterns as desired by the customers. The Students that are attending our Sewing and Tailoring program are coming from low-income areas. Volunteers at SCC can use their skills and knowledge by assisting our teachers during sewing & Tailoring classes.

Program Impact
- Assist in making and selling some ready- made dresses, School Uniforms, and pillowcases.
- Volunteers can help with all the steps of sewing from cutting to finishing, focusing on quality sewing and problem- solving.
- Volunteers can assist in making reusable/ washable menstrual pads at the centre. ( By packaging it, put buttons on pads, etc)
Why Do Volunteering On Sewing & Tailoring Classes With SCC?
When you volunteer during SEWING & TAILORING CLASSES in Tanzania you will be helping teach the students, while also developing personally and professionally by:
- Teaching independently or assisting with teaching.
- Improving lifetime skills for disadvantaged communities Helping students develop life skills in a safe place.

- Making reusable menstrual pads for teenagers and adults.
- Helping to provide more School Uniforms to students in Tanzania.
Sewing & Tailoring Classes Volunteer Requirements
- All volunteers are required to have adequate volunteer travel insurance.
- All volunteers are required to provide Program Fees starting at just $ 280 USD for one week, including accommodation, meals, airport picks up, orientation, and 24 / 7 support.
- Volunteers aged 16 – 18 are required to provide SCC with parental consent to participate in the program independently.
- Volunteers will receive a Certificate of Volunteering from Sakapala Community Centre.
- Volunteers will receive discounts on Swahili lessons.
- A program fee will not cover visa, flights, travel insurance (mandatory), vaccinations, criminal background check, dinner, public transport to and from your placement each day, and return to the airport when your program finishes.
You’ re welcome to bring sewing supplies such as sewing machines, overlocking sewing machines, uniforms & menstrual pad materials. Some supplies can generally be purchased in Tanzania, which also helps to support the local economy.
